A NEW WAY FORWARD
Many
of you may be wondering about the status of the DRM. The reality is that I have been
wondering the same thing. For quite
awhile now we have been communicating back and forth with the Brotherhood
Way Association and the City of San Francisco’s Neighborhood Empowerment
Network about a collaborative planning and response action plan among the
faith based communities and organizations on Brotherhood Way.
As of April 29th representatives from most
of the organizations in the Brotherhood Way Association will be meeting for
the first step to coordinating together under the Empowered Communities Program. More information can be found at www.empowersf.org/ecp/
Moving forward with the work of the DRM at Holy Trinity
will be directly affected by the strategies and developments which will
occur through the Brotherhood ECP.
In an attempt to avoid duplication of efforts and redundant
organizational structures, waiting until this meeting occurs and more information
is gathered before moving forward with further DRM meetings is
important. The meeting will be
videotaped and will be posted to a new blog for the DRM.
|
The new blog is located at http://holytrinitysf-drm.blogspot.com/ (YEP YOU FOUND IT) and will provide a place for updates that are germane
to Holy Trinity’s work internally and in coordination with the Brotherhood ECP. The goal will be to add each member access to post as necessary to the blog.
Quite obviously the structure of the DRM will
likely be completely reorganized by this new ECP project. Leadership positions or new opportunities
working directly with the City and/or the Brotherhood Way ECP will present
themselves so that a holistic and broad based cooperative effort can marshal
the collective resources and capabilities of the larger community. Though we do not know quite how that may
look currently, as we move forward with the beginning planning stages in the
upcoming meetings, the future shape of the ECP and DRM in relationship to it
will take firmer shape. Clearly, this
will result in more delays in meeting and some confusion regarding roles that
we had already established in some degree, which in some sense has led to the
lack of any movement in the last two months.
We must simply ask for your patience, love, prayers and flexibility
while this all gets clearer and the City begins facilitating the organizational
jumpstart for the ECP. As soon as we have some basic information for
how the ECP may be moving forward, I will post that for you to see and for us
to analyze and decide upon.
In the meantime, many of you have
either worked on projects or are currently working on projects which we spoke
about in our last meeting.
Among those items which we have been
working on are;
1)
Procurement of
900 gallons of BPA free potable water storage drums for disaster response. STATUS – A donation of three 55 Gallon BPA free water drums and
misc. 5 gallon commercial water bottles was received for a current total of 210
gallon on hand. Next month’s Familian
will include a line item in the donations page to sponsor the purchase of three
260 gallon portable water storage units.
The water is currently being stored in one of the empty rooms on the
right side of the nave as one faces the altar.
Specifically, the room being used is the one directly in front of
(towards the altar) of the right side emergency exit.
2)
Scheduling of a
Structural Engineer to assess property.
3)
AUTOCAD design
plans for the Church.
4)
Go-Bag
Demonstration / Education for Church Faithful.
5)
Backup of Church
Data into Archival (Digital) Storage.
6)
Emergency Exit
Upgrades to facilitate safe egress.
For all other projects that have members
have been working on, please hold onto your information and your work as we
determine what will happen moving forward with DRM/ECP. Much of the work already done simply gives
volunteers a head start for working under a more organized and resources
umbrella with the Brotherhood Way ECP.
